In order to prevent silting of the Inle lake, to keep the mountains surrounding Inle lake lush
and green and prevent soil erosion, to discourage farmers from practicing mobile farming and
to impart a sense of appreciation for environment to the local people, Htoo Foundation has
completed a 100-acres tree plantation at Kandaw village in Nyaung Shwe Township,
Southern Shan State. The trees planted are teak, cassod tree (Sennasiamea), eucalyptus, flame
tree (Poinciana regia), laburnum (Cassia fistula).
The plantation covered an area of 100 acres surrounding Lwe Tant dam and it is expected
that the trees will prevent soil erosion and silt depositing into Inle Lake. An additional 100-
acres plantation is planned at the watershed area east of Mya Thein Tan village. Htoo
Foundation endeavors, at its own expense and the co-operation of the public, to preserve the
environment by planting trees with technical assistance of the forest department.
